In 2011 the gardens were identified by the Lancashire Gardens Trust as being of historic importance, and advised that the front, heart shaped lawn dating from 1864 is almost certainly an "emblem" garden, in recognition of the marriage between the then Prince of Wales (Edward V11) to Princess Alexandra of Denmark, who is acknowledged also in the name of the road and in the local pub. Rock View stood on its own on what was then "Alexandra Terrace" for thirty years before other houses were built.
